Flickr API

Flickr wants you to pay for their pro version to use the API. I think they should just make it free and let developers use it. After all, word of mouth is what gets them the subscriptions they need from companies, not from individuals. So for the gallery on my site, I had to scrape the Flickr page directly because I can't afford the cost and cache it on my own site.

This is Daniel, and I think the thoughts section of Pooria's website is pretty cool, especially since he's now made a Siri app that allows him to record his thoughts on the fly and post them to the site.
HandsOn Structures

I think teaching data structures is wrong. Some argue we should rely on AI and not teach them, claiming AI will choose the best structure for your data. I believe people still need to learn them themselves, using AI only as a helper, not as a replacement for an instructor. The instructor should make the class interactive, with live Jupyter notebooks, allowing students to write and tweak code during the lesson. This hands‑on approach lets you experiment and learn, instead of hearing endless theory or getting an answer from AI.
Local AI

I think the only true way to actually stay true to privacy is using local LLM models. Even when companies like Claude or Cursor claim to not record your requests, I find it very disturbing that people will give access to their entire private code bases for these models to churn through disguised as requests. Over time even the private code bases will become training data for even better coding models. We've hit a limit on training data, so it's a big incentive for AI labs to give free access to their models for the sole reason of collecting requests as training data.
AI slop

I think it's pathetic that with all this money going into AI, turning UI designs made by humans, into code (which is the boring part) is still a manual process. Any AI claiming to turn pictures into code is straight up just garbage and doesn't produce nice looking outputs. EVEN WHEN IT LITERALLY HAS A DESIGN HANDED TO IT

I love every part of being a photographer, there's no higher pleasure to capture moments from my perspective and show it to others. HOWEVER... I can't take pictures of myself, so I don't have as many pictures of myself as I'd like😔. It's like the barber problem
